Fly Fishing for Big Smallmouth Bass
Caught, Photographed and Released
Set Up: 9ft #8WT Reddington CrossWater 2pc. Fly Rod and Reel Combo w/ Cortland ProCast WF 8 F Rocket Taper Line
1X 7.5 Ft Knotless Tapered Leader w/ 2mm Tippet Ring and 2 Ft 6 lb Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon Tippet to a #8 White Bead Head Woolly Bugger (From “Greatflies” on Ebay)
Method: Low water levels allowed for a floating line and 9-10ft Fluorocarbon leader set-up with a 5 to 10 second countdown before stripping back. Subtle strips with erratic hard twitches followed by a 2 second pause was usually when the bass would hit. This method also worked well catching Perch, Walleye and Bluegill.
